Yakubu Vowed To Uphold Standard
INEC boss, Professor Yakubu under immense pressure
– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has come under criticisms of late for the conduct of elections in some states – The electoral body is also being criticised for the manner in which the verdict of the Anambra state election petition tribunal has been handled A group that calls itself ”Committee of Anambra state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives members-elect” has described the leadership of INEC as incompetent.

In an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, the group lamented that INEC is encouraging impunity as regards their status as members-elect of the lower house.
Singling out the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, the group alleged that:”The INEC chairman is bent on sustaining and oiling the machinery of impunity perpetrated by some members of the administration of the PDP.” According to them, INEC is supporting the current National Assembly members from their state to stay put as legislators despite a court order that have ordered for their removal. ”The INEC chairman has been dilly dallying over issuing us with our Certificates of Return to enable us sworn in as members of the National Assembly in line with the mandate of our people. ”There is no doubt that the delay is designed to keep the wrong people in office as long as possible.” The group further stated that the INEC chairman’s failure to do the right thing is raising a lot of tension in the state by making nonsense of court decisions. They appealed to President Buhari to intervene in the case and quickly stem the tide.
Meanwhile, supporters of the group protested in front of the INEC headquarters in Abuja today, March 30. The entrance to the commission was filled with the protesters as at 8am. They were chanting solidarity songs and most of them displayed placards demanding that INEC issues their representatives their Certificates of Return to resume at the National Assembly.
