The
Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of
Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday declared as illegal, the continued existence
of Nigeria as a country, saying it based its conclusion on the basis of
its formation by the colonial British government through the
amalgamation of the Southern and Northern protectorates.
In a press statement issued by its director of information, Mr. Uche
Madu, and made available to journalists, MASSOB argued that when the
country was formed in 1914, the arrangement by the British colonial
masters was on experimental basis to last for 100 years, saying that
period would elapse this year.
The group further claimed that the document stating the country’s
existence on experimental basis for a century was kept secret from the
public, but said many political leaders in Nigeria were aware of the
document which informed the recent recourse to consistent statements by
some political leaders on the possible breakup of the country.
“The amalgamation of southern and northern Nigeria by the British was
to be experimented for 100 years to know if it would work or not”, it
said.
